Shoji Paper Table Lamp
The Akari 7A table lamp is part of the Akari lamp series created by the Japanese-American designer Isamu Noguchi in 195 1. During a visit to the Japanese fishing village of Gifu, Noguchi watched fishermen at work: they used large paper-covered lanterns to attract fish in the water. The design and the typically Japanese materials inspired Isamu Noguchi to create his paper lamps.Tripod Table Lamp with Bamboo
Like the traditional lanterns, the Akari 7A table lamp features a ribbed base made of bamboo slats covered with fine shoji paper. Light shines gently through the paper, bathing the room in a pleasant atmosphere. The lamp thus provides cozy ambient lighting that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The square lampshade sits on a delicate tripod frame, which lends the overall design a certain lightness. It’s no coincidence that Isamu Noguchi named his series Akari —a word that is the Japanese term for brightness and light, and also implies lightness.
