Plywood Lounge Chair

The LCW Chair (Lounge Chair Wood) is part of the Plywood Group collection by the designer couple Charles & & Ray Eames. LCW stands for Lounge Chair Wood, perfectly capturing the essence of the chair: an elegant lounge chair made entirely of the finest wood. Through years of experimentation, Charles and Ray Eames sought new methods to adapt three-dimensionally molded plywood to the contours of the human body as closely as possible. The LCW, in which the seat, backrest, and base are all made of molded plywood, is now once again available with a fur upholstery, just as it was when first introduced in 1946.

Exceptional Seating Comfort

To manufacture the Plywood Group, layers of wood are bent into shape. The thin wooden shells of the backrest and seat support the body with their gently curved surfaces. The individual elements are attached to the frame with elastic rubber washers, which provide additional seating comfort. Vitra ’s encounter with the legendary design couple Charles and Ray Eames was of fundamental importance: the company’s history as a furniture manufacturer began in 1957 with the production of their designs. But Charles and Ray Eames shaped Vitra not only through their products. Rather, their understanding of design has had a decisive influence on the company’s values and direction—an influence that continues to this day. The LCW chair is also available in other colors and with a fur upholstery option.
