The Wire Chairs by Charles and Ray Eames are, in form, a variation on the Eames Plastic Side Chairs. The DKR, featuring the legendary & “Eiffel Tower base &,” combines transparency and functionality. The powder-coated versions are also suitable for use in the garden and on the patio.

Unupholstered, with a seat cushion, or with “Bikini”

With the Wire Chair, made of welded steel wire, Charles and Ray Eames reimagined the theme of the organically shaped, one-piece seat shell, infusing it with a sense of light transparency and high technical sophistication. They are available with various base options. The Wire Chairs are available unupholstered, with a seat cushion, or with seat and back cushions. The latter are also known as “Bikini” due to their shape.

A classic chair redesigned in 2016

In 2016, Vitra raised the bases of the Wire Chairs by approximately 20 mm and adjusted their geometry accordingly. These changes, which are barely noticeable from an aesthetic standpoint, enhance the seating comfort of this classic chair when paired with contemporary tables.

The seat shell made of spot-welded steel wire lends the Wire Chairs by Charles and Ray Eames a sense of transparency, and the wooden base of the DKW model (Dining Chair K-Wire Wood Base) creates a cozy contrast to the chair’s fundamentally technical appearance.
