Gianfranco Frattini is a 1926-born designer and architect, who significantly influenced the Italian design of the 1950s and 1960's. Like many of his successful colleagues, Frattini also studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan. After initially working for some time in the office of his mentor Gio Ponti, the Italian soon founded his own architectural office.

Soon after he turned to interior design, initially for the purpose of furnishing his own home, and then to furnish restaurants, apartments and offices. He also became active in the field of product design and worked for numerous well-known manufacturers - including Artemide.

His furniture and lighting designs have won awards including the prestigious Compasso D'Oro Award and are still enjoyed by many design enthusiasts today.
