Italian designer

Gianfranco Frattini, born in 1926, was a designer and architect who had a decisive influence on Italian design in the 1950s and 1960s. Like many of his successful colleagues, Frattini studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy. After working for some time in the office of his mentor Gio Ponti, he soon founded his own architecture practice.
Before long – initially to furnish his own home – he turned to interior design, working on restaurants, apartments and offices. He also became active in product design and went on to work for numerous renowned manufacturers, including Artemide.
His furniture and lighting designs won awards including the renowned Compasso d'Oro and are still popular with many design lovers today.
