Alongside the About A Chair series, HAY also offers the About A Lounge (AAL) series of comfortable armchairs and sofas, as well as the About A Stool (AAS) series of bar stools.
1. Seat shells: 3 shapes
The About A Chair (AAC) is available with three different seat shells. The version without armrests is particularly well suited to offices, while the model with armrests can be used at a dining table, for example. The AAC 100 range has a deeper seat and higher backrest for added comfort.
2. Bases for AAC without armrests
Each of the three seat shell shapes is available with a choice of bases to suit different uses. The AAC without armrests comes with seven types of base, including swivel bases with or without castors, four-legged bases in wood or metal, and sled bases.
3. Bases for AAC with armrests
The AAC with armrests is available with six different bases. Choose from four-legged bases in wood or metal, or swivel bases with or without castors.
4. Bases for AAC 100
The AAC 100 chairs are available with four different bases. Choose from four-legged bases in wood or metal, or swivel bases with or without castors.
5. Base materials
The bases for About A Chair models are available in wood or metal. The plywood legs have an oak veneer in one of four finishes. The metal legs are made from chrome-plated or powder-coated steel in a choice of colours.
6. Seat shell colours
The seat shell of the About A Chair is made from polypropylene and is available in 15 colours, including warm and cool shades.
7. Upholstery for AAC
The AAC with or without armrests is available with four upholstery options: no upholstery, a padded seat, front upholstery or full upholstery. As a guide, fully upholstered models have an odd number in their name; all other upholstery options have an even number.
8. Upholstery for AAC 100
The About A Chair 100 range is available with three types of full upholstery. The standard option has light, classic upholstery with a simple look. The Soft model has a softly padded seat shell with a quilted finish. The Soft Duo version creates a contrasting look, with different upholstery on the seat and back of the chair.
9. Upholstery fabrics
All upholstered chairs in the About A Chair series can be ordered in a choice of textiles or leather. Options include fabrics by Kvadrat, HAY and Camo leather.
