Furniture for people
Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) was one of the most influential Danish designers of the 20th century and designed for the manufacturer Fredericia from 1955 until his death. Mogensen made it his life's work to design furniture that is not only practical and beautiful but also serves people in a simple way and makes their everyday lives easier.
His furniture was meant to create a sense of calm and, through its understated appearance, encourage people to lead a simple but happy life. He is still known today for his masterful sense of materials and proportions and for his ability to create distinctive, beautiful furniture that turns a simple horizontal line into something special. He always strove to design aesthetically clear furniture that was easy to produce.
During his lifetime, his designs and exhibitions – such as at MoMA in 1948 – made their mark on the Danish and international design scene. He shaped today's image of Danish style and received numerous awards for his exceptional talent. After his death, his legacy lives on in the furniture of Danish manufacturer Fredericia, which is still regarded as a classic of Danish design today.
