The right size of plant pot
Plant pots are home to every plant and flower. Your plants need to feel comfortable in their pot so they can grow and stay healthy. That's why it's important to choose a pot that matches the size of the plant – it can only grow if it has enough room. Remember to repot your plants regularly, and keep enough pots in different sizes at home. Ideally, choose a decorative pot two to three centimetres larger than the inner pot, so that it's still big enough after repotting.
Plant pots as accessories
Plant pots show off your plants and put them centre stage. They match the room and blend easily into your interior. A coloured pot adds an accent.
The right materials for your plant pot
Depending on their material and finish, you can use plant pots indoors or outdoors. They come in metal, wood, plastic, concrete and ceramic. Most plant pots are made of ceramic and usually have a smooth glazed surface. These are the easiest to clean, so water marks and soil can be removed easily. Plastic plant pots are highly decorative and available in countless versions – and they won't break if they fall.
You can plant directly into most plant pots. Just make sure they have a hole in the base so that excess water can drain away. For pots made of fabric and other water-permeable materials, you will definitely need an inner pot. This also ensures that enough air reaches the soil.
