A young designer with his own studio
David Geckeler was born in 1984 and grew up in Konstanz in southern Germany. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in Denmark and at the Berlin University of the Arts in Germany, where he graduated in 2012. While studying product design at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam in Germany, he met Frank Michels, with whom he founded the design studio GECKELER MICHELS in Berlin in 2013.
Geckeler focuses in particular on furniture, interior fittings, tableware and lighting. His design process is based above all on attentive, analytical observation of his surroundings. He sticks firmly to the principle of designing objects with simplicity, attention to detail and a touch of boldness. For him, the tension of the creative process and the desire for meaningful interaction between the future owner and the object are what make an object or product – and good design in general – fascinating. His Nerd Chair won the Beckers International Design Award 2011, and he is the winner of the Muuto Talent Award 2012.
