Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, both born in 1969, studied at the Royal College of Art in London in the UK and founded the design studio Barber Osgerby in 1996. In 1998, Cappellini presented their first piece, the "Loop Table", in Milan in Italy. The design attracted immediate attention and is now part of the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in the USA and the V&A in London – as are their "Flight Stool" and their most recent addition, the chair for the De La Warr Pavilion, an icon of modernist architecture in the UK. The building was renovated in 2005, and Barber Osgerby were commissioned to contribute a series of furniture to the project.
Barber Osgerby have designed for the collections of companies such as Magis, Depot4Design, ClassiCon, Isokon Plus and Stella McCartney. Among the many awards and honours for their work, the nomination for the Compasso d'Oro in 2004 and their selection as Designers of the Year 2005 by Blueprint magazine stand out.
