Jean-Marie Massaud was born in Toulouse in France in 1966. He studied industrial design at "Les Ateliers", the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle in Paris. After graduating in 1990, he stayed in the French capital with his family, worked with Marc Berthier (born 1935) and increasingly turned his attention to architecture.

Since 2000, he has run Studio Massaud with architect Daniel Pouzet. Their joint projects include a football stadium and a hotel project in Mexico, as well as Renault's stands at international motor shows. The "Volcano" stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico, whose shape is based on a volcano, attracted particular attention. The French designer is also highly productive as a furniture designer and has received many awards for his work.

Today, Massaud is often described as a style icon and is one of the most important contemporary French designers. His work shows a strong connection to natural objects and forms. Most recently, Massaud attracted attention with his design for an airship inspired by the shape of a whale. His vision is to house a hotel in it, allowing guests to float above the world's sights.
