Simple, functional furniture
Jørgen Bækmark, born in 1929, is a designer and trained cabinetmaker. From 1958 to 1967, the Dane headed the Danish furniture cooperative FDB Møbler, which had previously been led by Børge Mogensen. In the 1960s, FDB developed practical, affordable furniture whose design followed the German Bauhaus and the American Shaker movement.
Jørgen Bækmark designed a number of these simple, functional pieces, which also meet high aesthetic standards. His philosophy is that furniture should adapt to people, not the other way round. Thanks to their simple elegance, many FDB pieces were reissued in 2011 by Danish manufacturer HAY.
