Born in Wales in 1958, Ross Lovegrove is today regarded as one of the most important contemporary product designers.

After graduating from Manchester Polytechnic in 1980 and completing a master's degree at the Royal College of Art in 1983, he first worked as a designer for Frog Design in Germany on projects such as the Walkman for Sony and computers for Apple.

In 1984, Ross Lovegrove moved to Paris in France, where he worked as a consultant for Knoll International. He was eventually invited to join the Atelier de Nîmes – together with Jean Nouvel and Philippe Starck – and went on to work with a number of French companies, including Cacharel, Louis Vuitton, Hermès and DuPont.

In 1988, he returned to London in the UK, where he ran a design studio with Julian Brown. In 1990, he founded his own Studio X. Ross Lovegrove's client list reads like a who's who of international design: Cappellini, Sony, Apple, Driade, Luceplan, Edra, Biomega, Moooi, Zanotta, Mandarina Duck, Kartell, Artemide, Herman Miller...

Ross Lovegrove is an all-round talent who often draws his aesthetic ideas from the forms of nature. He describes his designs as "Organic Dreams", in which ergonomics and sensuality come together. His objects show a deep sensitivity to the needs of the user – a talent that stands out in contemporary British design. He believes that "design can improve our lives".

Alongside the numerous international awards his work has received, it is exhibited in museums including MoMA and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, USA, the Axis Centre in Japan, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and other renowned institutions.
