Zanotta furniture – Italian design since 1954
Founded in 1954, Zanotta is now one of the leading Italian design companies. Founded and long run by Aurelio Zanotta, the company first stepped into the spotlight of the international design scene in the 1960s and has remained there ever since. It owes its success to its exceptional products, which exemplify formal and technological innovation.
In the 1980s, Aurelio Zanotta tried to explain his company's success: "In the 1950s and 1960s, the furniture and furnishing industry was bubbling over with creativity. Some companies that are still leaders in design today and enjoy international success were clear-sighted enough at the time to seize the solution to the problem of reconciling design and production. It was possible to create profits and culture at the same time." The Sacco beanbag and the William sofa were just some of the pieces that attracted international attention.
Since it was founded, Zanotta has worked with a large number of internationally recognised designers and architects, including greats such as Achille Castiglioni, Gae Aulenti, Marco Zanuso, Ettore Sottsass, Joe Colombo, Alessandro Mendini, Andrea Branzi, Giuseppe Terragni, Carlo Mollino, De Pas-D'Urbino-Lomazzi, Enzo Mari, Bruno Munari, Alfredo Häberli, Roberto Barbieri and Ross Lovegrove.
Today, the Zanotta collection covers a wide range of product areas. The company uses various manufacturing technologies in production. In line with the company's philosophy, this allows a wide range of materials to be used in progressive ways.
Zanotta Edizioni – design objects with artistic ambition
"Zanotta Edizioni" was established in 1989. This collection includes furnishings with high artistic ambitions. They are largely free from the pressure of mass production and are mostly made by hand. "Zanotta Edizioni" products are meant to be chosen carefully and loved, just like paintings or sculptures.
Creations worthy of a museum: a brand that goes against the grain
Many Zanotta products stand out against everyday dullness or represent creations that go against the grain. This originality means that many Zanotta products feature in books and in the world's major design museums. These include MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum, the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Design Museum in London in the UK, the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin in Germany, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein in Germany and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem in Israel.
Accordingly, Zanotta products have won many awards. Zanotta also undertakes a wide range of experimental and cultural initiatives to support the development and dissemination of ideas for creating household objects.
The products are also shown at numerous exhibitions and shows, which has made them widely known, and they are now delivered to more than 60 countries.
