Danish ceramic design
The Danish ceramics company Kähler Design looks back on a long tradition. It was founded in 1839, and its craftsmanship has been passed down from generation to generation ever since. When Herman A. Kähler took over the ceramics workshop in 1875, the company went on to become one of the great success stories in Danish ceramics. His initials "HAK" appear as the base mark on every Kähler piece. In 1889 – the year the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated – Kähler ceramics impressed visitors at the World's Fair in Paris in France.
A tradition of handcraft
In 2008, architect Frantz Longhi acquired the rights to the company and has continued its success story ever since. Experience with classic crafts is now interpreted in a contemporary light, resulting in exciting new ceramics with a timeless, individual character. Every piece that bears the Kähler name is shaped by hand and designed from the heart. For more than 150 years, Kähler ceramics have been found not only in homes around the world but also in some of the world's most renowned museums.
A hundred years ago, artists such as Thorvald Bindesbøll, Svend Hammershøi and Kai Nielsen created ceramics for Kähler. Their successors, who uphold this tradition, include Louise Campbell, Bjørn Poulsen and Jeanette List Amstrup. With these young, talented designers, Kähler Design is heading towards a promising future.
