Magis – Italian design and international variety
In 1976, Eugenio Perazza founded Magis, based in Motta di Livenza near Venice in Italy. Magis sees itself as a kind of product publisher that deliberately highlights the different languages and styles of international designers.
Magis is less a production and manufacturing company, as selected specialists and suppliers handle that side. Instead, Eugenio Perazza's company is about responding flexibly to designers' ideas and giving them a degree of autonomy. Perazza himself is closely and passionately involved in the development of the products.
Alongside seating and furniture, Magis offers a varied, fresh collection of everyday objects by renowned designers such as Konstantin Grcic, Jasper Morrison, Michael Young, Stefano Giovannoni, Marc Newson, James Irvine and Karim Rashid.
Unlike Cappellini, Danese Milano, Flos, Kartell or Zanotta, Magis is not one of the long-established Italian companies of the 1950s and 1960s that founded and shaped Italian design. But it stands firmly in that tradition and, aware of this heritage, has followed its own distinctive path since 1976. Magis focuses mainly on plastic and metal, using them to create new and innovative products.
Successful products from the company include the well-known Bombo bar stool by Stefano Giovannoni (1997), the Bottle wine rack by Jasper Morrison (1994), Chair One by Konstantin Grcic (2003) and the Aida folding table and chair by Richard Sapper (2002), to name just a few.
