myfelt - handmade felt rugs
The carpets factory myfelt based in Berlin, Charlottenburg produces hand-knotted carpets from felt balls. The carpets combine felt, quality and design made in centuries of old handicraft culture from Nepal and resulting in a sustainable, modern production.
High class wool and ecological colour
The rugs by myfelt are made of 100% wool from New Zealand, which is one of the highest quality wools of the world. The untreated wool is combed and washed several times at the carpet factory in Nepal. Then the wool is coloured in the corresponding colour from the fair trade certified dyer "Label STEP®" according to purely ecological guidelines.
Felting and tying
The final felting is the most complicated working step. Every single ball is moulded by hand in several working steps. Then, the finished balls become a carpet in a tying process developed especially by myfelt. A carpet can comprise up to 50,000 felt balls.
Durable and unique
The carpets meet the highest standards and are made of the best materials. Each rug is therefore a handmade unicum and slight colour and material differences may occur at every carpet. That’s not a sign of inferior quality but a proof of honest hand work. The combination of processing, quality and choice of materials creates a unique, long-lasting product.
Responsibility and social commitment
myfelt sees the company as a social project. Fair wages and working conditions for everyone being part of the production result in a modern and sustainable production chain. myfelt works with GoodWeave since 2014, one of the largest fair trade companies of the carpet industry. The inspectors may control the work processes in the myfelt factory at any time and without prior notice to ensure the high fair trade standards of. GoodWeave campaigned against child labour and for the reintegration into society of children from the carpet industry. The GoodWeave standards also take into account social and environmental criteria for that reason.
