Sculptural Banana Holder
“ Dear Charlie ” by Alessi is a banana holder whose irregular and stylized shape resembles a tree trunk with a small branch. Bananas can be hung from this branch to store them properly. With its sturdy and solid base, the banana holder from Alessi is a small tabletop sculpture that can also be used as a stand for other fruits or vegetables, such as grapes, a bunch of chili peppers, or a braid of garlic. But Dear Charlie can also be used in a completely different context, such as a hanging rack for rings, bracelets, and earrings. Bananas stored while hanging do not ripen as quickly, since the banana holder tricks them into thinking they are still on the tree. Alessi ’s banana holder was designed by John Truex and is made of chrome-plated zamak.
