Minimalist Stainless Steel Tray
A U-shapedstainless steel plate
forms the baseof
the tray, and two handles of equal width extend from the ends of the plate on either side, complementing the tray’s surface. The wide, angled side handles not only lend the tray a sense of visual solidity but also evoke the typical truncated pyramidal shape of a wooden tray. The available tray sizes are determined by their capacity to hold cups and accessories. Thus, the tray measuring 45 x 30 centimeters is designed to hold 6 espresso cups with a sugar bowl, the smaller tray (33 x 30) for 4 espresso cups plus a sugar bowl, whereas the larger tray, measuring 55 x 33, is suitable for 8 espresso cups. Designer Giulio Iacchetta said of the design of his Vassily tray: & “Guess who’s coming over for dinner?”… Back when I was growing up, whenever the serving platter was taken off the sideboard at my house, it meant: We’re expecting guests. That’s why I’m still a fan of these trays today—they’re tools that measure the distance between people; the larger the size, the greater the embrace and the abundance of offerings. After all, two hands aren’t enough when there are many friends and you want to serve all your guests well at the same time. That’s why we came up with a “running meter” platter, extendable to infinity—even if we ultimately settled on just three sizes! & quot;The “ Vassily ” tray from Alessi is available in various sizes.
