Designer Simon Legald created this rug collection for Normann Copenhagen Oona for [email protected]: hand-knotted rugs with clean, graphic designs. Oona The collection plays with shapes and contrasts. Clean lines and soft curves result in three unique rug shapes—none of which are round or rectangular. A deep, woven stripe in a darker shade serves as a graphic design element in these otherwise monochromatic rugs. Simon Legald often focuses on the details in his designs. For Oona For example, he designed the radius of the corners differently for all three rugs, thereby varying the design language while maintaining the visual cohesion. Simon Legald explains: “I tried to design a rug in which the decorative element is achieved primarily through the shape. As a small detail, the striking, straight stripe emphasizes the shape of the rugs. It creates asymmetry and provides a visual contrast to the soft curves of the edges.”
