Officina Alessi - Max le chinois Colander

Designer Stainless Steel Drain Rack

The drain rack is large, eye-catching, aesthetically pleasing, and sophisticated. With its extraordinary and ironic design, Philippe Starck’s “ Max le chinois ” is almost more of a piece of furniture than a utilitarian object. In this respect, it resembles the legendary Juicy Salif lemon squeezer, also by Philippe Starck. What both objects have in common is that they epitomize Philippe Starck’s postmodern design and derive their impact and energy from their spectacular design rather than their functionality. As an ironic object, the “ Max le chinois ” strainer takes its place right in the midst of daily kitchen and cooking rituals. There, with its striking design, it challenges these very daily habits and the use of familiar objects. In French, “Chinois” means “fine-mesh strainer” or “funnel-shaped strainer,” which explains the name “Max le Chinois.” The unconventional design and the idea behind it align with the standards of Officina Alessi . This collection has always featured the most thoughtfully designed, experimental, and innovative products from Alessi .
