Alarm Clocks by Arne Jacobsen
Arne Jacobsen is arguably the most famous Danish architect and designer. His legendary furniture designs made Jacobsen famous far beyond Denmark’s borders. Rosendahl has acquired the rights to reproduce Arne Jacobsen’s most famous wall clocks and has now reissued them in 100% accordance with the original designs and in meticulous collaboration with Teit Weylandt. Teit Weylandt worked for many years in product development at Arne Jacobsen’s design studio and paid close attention to every detail during the re-production of the clocks: & “No stone was left unturned: the hands, the case, the shape of the glass—we went through everything… & ” The result is three legendary classic timepieces that originally adorned buildings in Denmark. However, the re-production by Rosendahl was not limited to just the three wall clocks—at the same time, the respective designs were also launched as table clocks with an alarm function. As early as the mid-1930s, Arne Jacobsen designed a villa for H.J. Hansen, the director of Lauritz Knudsen. Hansen recognized the young architect’s potential and asked him if he would be interested in designing a clock. The result was “ & ” electric table clocks with and without an alarm function &, which were first presented in 1939 at the Charlottenborg Spring Fair. City HallIn the 1950s and 1960s, Arne Jacobsen designed many buildings for the Copenhagen suburb of Rødovre. The City Hall, built in 1956, demonstrates how deeply Jacobsen was inspired by international trends during this period, and it is one of his most meticulously planned buildings. He designed every detail himself, including the City Hall clock, and furnished the building with his own furniture collections. The iconic dial of the City Hall alarm clock was modeled after this clock. The table clock’s case is made of ABS plastic and shatterproof glass. The base is made of metal. The alarm clock is also equipped with LED lighting and a snooze function.
