Carafes and jugs: serve drinks in style

Serving is an art. On festive occasions in particular, stylish table decoration is essential – just as important as the food and drink itself. To serve the drinks, you need a carafe or a jug, whether you're pouring water, coffee, wine or lemonade. There is a wide choice of carafes and jugs, with the right model for every purpose. Incidentally, this way of serving has its roots in the Middle Ages. Drinks reserved for a prince or king always had to be tasted first. Only once they were found to be safe and tasty were they served – from the Latin "credere", to trust.

Carafes and jugs – a wide variety

Water carafe: While the water carafe is a standard feature of every dining table in southern countries, it still gets relatively little attention in Germany – undeservedly so. Water carafes have a slightly rounded lower section and a long, narrow neck. Unlike a conventional supermarket water bottle, a carafe has the big advantage that you can add ice cubes or flavourings such as strawberries to the water. The Menu water carafe with stainless steel lid is designed to fit in any standard fridge. Thanks to the smart clip closure, the lid opens automatically when you pour, while ice cubes, mint and lemon stay safely inside the carafe.

Decanter, wine carafe: The aroma of wine develops on contact with air. Both old and young wines benefit from being left to "breathe". Simply opening the bottle and leaving it to stand for a while isn't enough, though, as the surface exposed to air is too small. A wine carafe, on the other hand, has a rounded shape that gives the wine plenty of surface contact with the air. The Iittala Decanter gives your wine enough space to develop its full bouquet. Used as a white or red wine carafe, it is also a high-quality eye-catcher that gives your festive table a classic look.

Cooling carafe: In summer especially, it's important to drink enough. But the last thing that refreshes us on a hot day is a warm drink. A cooling carafe solves this problem with ease and is a stylish accessory on your table, too. The Menu New Norm Cool glass carafe works in a way that is as simple as it is clever: the carafe's cooling stick contains water and can be refrozen as often as you like.

Glass jug: Thanks to its wide opening, a glass jug is not only suitable for serving hot and cold drinks. It is also a clever way to present small dishes such as soups or desserts. The Jenaer Glas jug is heat-resistant up to 450°C, giving you plenty of options. The robust borosilicate glass does not release any substances, making it ideal for people with allergies.
