Jasper Morrison was born in London in the UK in 1959. Until 1985, he studied at Kingston Polytechnic Design School in London, at the Royal College of Art (postgraduate studies) and at the Berlin University of the Arts (Hochschule der Künste) in Germany. Just a year later, he founded his own design studio in London.
In 1987, Morrison attracted attention with his installation "Reuters News Centre" at "documenta 8" in Kassel, Germany. Through numerous other exhibition designs, installations and urban planning projects – on which he worked with Andreas Brandolini and Axel Kufus, among others – he moved into product design.
In 1995, as part of Expo 2000, Jasper Morrison won the competition to design a new tram for Hanover.
In addition to his studio in London, Morrison now also runs an office in Paris in France. He works for renowned manufacturers such as Alessi, Alias, Canon Camera Division, Cappellini, Flos, FSB, Magis, Rosenthal, Rowenta, Sony Design Centre Europe and Vitra International. Morrison has also won numerous design awards, including the Red Dot Award, the iF Design Award, Design Plus and the Federal Design Prize of Germany.
Morrison's design is regarded as plain, simple and masterfully reduced to the essentials, which is why it is often described as "New Simplicity".
