Buying lights online – what to consider
What is the room used for? How do you want it to feel? These are the two key questions when buying lights.
For a bright workspace, an LED desk lamp is the ideal choice, as LED lights give a bright, very clear light – perfect for working. For a cosy atmosphere, choose a table lamp with a dimmer or one of our dimmable floor lamps . You'll also find design lights with indirect lighting in our shop, which create a warm, homely feel. In short, if you want to buy design lighting , you have plenty of options. Spotlights, ceiling lights, pendant lights, wall lights, floor lamps or outdoor lights – at Connox, you'll find the right product for the needs of your space.
Spoilt for choice? Shape, material and colour
Have you decided on the right type of light? Then the next question is: classic or modern? Extravagant or simple? The days of plain wooden bases with fabric or glass lampshades are long gone. Designers have discovered new and innovative possibilities. Concrete, knitted fabric, paper, textiles, feathers: when it comes to lighting design, there are no limits. One example: the body of the Eclisse table lamp by Artemide is made of lacquered metal. What makes it special is that the open sphere of the Eclisse lamp can be rotated to gradually reveal the bulb inside, so you can adjust the intensity of the light. The manufacturer &Tradition combines tradition with modern technology. For the Milk table lamp, the designers drew on the shape of a milking stool. The shade is made of mouth-blown opal glass, and the legs of untreated oak.
Design lighting for the bedroom , kitchen or living room: different needs
Different rooms place different demands on lighting. In the bathroom, it's important that your light has at least an IP44 rating. This helps you avoid short circuits or nasty electric shocks. With desk lamps, look for a stable base and an adjustable arm, so you can adapt the light to your work at any time. And outdoors? How about a solar light? Make use of the power of the sun.
LED design lighting: a look into the future
LED lights divide opinion. Everyone agrees that they're kinder to the environment and your wallet, but not everyone has warmed to the successor of the light bulb. LED lights have long since overtaken classic light bulbs – for example, they last much longer. Even light bulb champions such as designer Ingo Maurer have embraced the greener alternative and are giving young talent a chance. The My New Flame LED, designed by Moritz Waldemeyer, uses 128 small LEDs to create the impression of a real flickering candle. Only on closer inspection do you notice the ornamental circuits and the LEDs that take on the role of the candle – without any fire risk.
