The Norm 69 as the foundation of a great success
Normann Copenhagen was founded in 1999 by Jan Andersen and Poul Madsen. The idea behind Normann Copenhagen was, and still is, to establish a new approach to design. Three years after it was founded, the company presented its first product: the Norm 69 lamp. A self-assembly pendant light, it quickly became a modern design classic. In 2002, Normann Copenhagen relaunched Simon Karkov's lamp from 1969 under the name Norm 69.
Over the following years came numerous other products and collaborations with renowned designers and talents from all over the world.
Normann Copenhagen – award-winning design products
In 2005, Jan Andersen and Poul Madsen moved Normann Copenhagen from its small office into the 1,700-square-metre premises of a former cinema in Copenhagen in Denmark. The space not only provides the right setting for the company's award-winning products, but also serves as a venue for parties, exhibitions and other events.
Normann Copenhagen sees itself not just as a manufacturer of innovative design products, but as an attitude and a way of seeing things. The company wants to break conventional design rules and challenge the familiar. This is one of the main reasons why it often uses familiar materials in new contexts – such as silicone for a vase or rubber for a washing-up bowl.
The range includes versatile furniture, sculptural lighting, exciting textiles and home accessories. Normann Copenhagen products regularly win renowned design awards.
