BODUM – 70 Years of Tradition
The BODUM brand was founded by Peter Bodum in 1944. He is the father of Jørgen Bodum, who is currently running the BODUM group and who lives in Switzerland. The BODUM group is a 100% family-owned business and has 700 employees worldwide.
In the beginning, BODUM imported glasses from eastern Europe to sell in Denmark. Today, the brand is renowned for their extensive range of tea and coffee accessories as well as their designer bistro and kitchen appliances.
In 1958, the first BODUM product was launched. The Santos coffee machine was a sensation, and the coffee maker is still produced by BODUM today in the original design by Kaas Klaeson.
The History of Success: Design and Functionality at Accessible Prices
1974 saw the launch of the bistro coffee pot. It was the first BODUM product from the Presso coffee pot range. These were also the first steps of collaboration between Jørgen Bodum and Carsten Jørgensen, whose ideas showed us that good design doesn't have to be expensive. At the same time, the Bistro coffee pot was the basis for BODUM's own line. Incidentally, the concept of the Presso coffee-pot was developed by the Italian designer Calimani in 1933.
In 1986, BODUM UK opened its first shop in London; actually as a showroom. It was followed by shops in Paris, Copenhagen, Zurich, Lucerne, New York and Tokyo. Today, there are 52 BODUM shops worldwide and many more shop-in-shops. The BODUM shops serve to popularise the brand BODUM and its tea and coffee appliances and bistro accessories all over the world.
BODUM – Based in the Heart of Europe
BODUM includes a holding company in Denmark as well as in Switzerland, 12 sales companies and 3 production companies. The office that manages the rights of the products, brands, patents and tools, also has its headquarters in Switzerland.
Product development and production strategies are coordinated in BODUM AG, which was been established in Switzerland since 24th July 1980. All the sales companies and agents are situated in Denmark. In addition, 20-30% of the manufacture is undertaken by own-brand companies, with the rest being produced externally.
