Red Dot Design Award
Internationally highest recognized award for product design and communication
The Red Dot Design Award is given annually to ideas that impress with their special design quality and high innovative potential. The coveted award is presented each year in three categories: Product Design (product design), Brands & Communication (PR and brand communication) and Design Concept (for product design prototypes).
The origin of the Red Dot Design Award originated in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, as a "permanent showcase of shapely industrial products" in 195 5. In the meantime, the Red Dot Award now has branches in Germany, Tokyo and Singapore. Every year, around 1 8. 000 entries are received for the categories from more than 70 countries worldwide.
At the heart of the Red Dot Design Museum, which was established in 1997 in the boiler house of the former Zollverein colliery, which was converted into a museum.
Award of the highest quality and excellence
Around 40 experts from the fields of design, professorship and journalism evaluate the submitted objects in the Product Design category true to the motto 'in search of good design and innovation' and award the prize exclusively to outstanding, forward-looking concepts. The evaluation criteria include:
- degree of innovation
- Formal quality
- Symbolic and emotional content
- Product periphery
- Self-explanatory quality
- Ecological compatibility
