Handmade Lampshades from Denmark
The first lampshade of the Danish design manufacturer Le Klint was already created at the beginning of the 20th century by the architect P.V. Jensen Klint. Klint designed the shade for a kerosene lamp, by crafting a unique piece by hand with many different tucks and pleats.
Even today the craftsmanship stands in the centre at Le Klint: each lampshade gets its characteristic shape by hand. Employees who have a long road of training behind them stand at the beginning of each lampshade: first they go through a one-year program in which they learn the techniques of pleating and folding. It takes another two to three years until they have mastered the ways of folding all current models.
In addition to the craftsmanship, some important factors contribute to the success of the company: each shade is built around the light source so that the lamp doesn't glare. In addition, the technical requirements are constantly further developed and adapted to the current housing needs, without losing sight of the harmony of the overall appearance.
Not least, thanks to the collaboration of Le Klint with already established architects as well as with young up-and-coming designers, Le Klint is today one of the most important design manufacturers of Denmark with high-quality handmade products and innovative design ideas.
