The vases classic of 1937 in a set of 2
The swung waves shape is commonly known as trademark of the products and buildings Alvar Aalto made. The Scandinavian architect and designer perfected this form in the design of his legendary vase. Designed in 1936 because of the world exposition in Paris and produced in series since 1937, the vase didn’t only develop to become the trademark of the Iittala company, but it is also one of the most famous glass objects all over the world.
Surely also the “Savoy” hotel encouraged that success, since it ornamented all tis tables in Helsinki with just this vase. People became curious or the – then new - design of a vase and the Aalto Vase was then called the “Savoy Vase”.
The company Iittala offers the vase in many different editions and colours, as well as special offer sets: The Aalto vases gift set 1937 includes the vases of 95 mm and 160 mm of height. The colour is unique in this set, since both vases are manufactured with the “original colour” of 1937. The technique wasn’t prepared for a serial production then as good as today, which is why all the clear glass sets has a green cast. This vintage and retro look is especially demanded today and this is how even the colour of the original 1937 vases is a top modern piece of time history.
The Aalto Vase with the height of 16 cm and 9,5cm is now available and only for a short time in an unique special set.
