”The true innovation of the PH lamp is that it provides a light which is both glare-free and economical. It is easy enough to create glare-free light (indirect and thoroughly screened light) if you can waste a part of the light and it is equally easy to design a lamp which is highly efficient if you ignore the fact that it is highly irritating to the eyes (strong reflection, and so on), but it is an art to create light which is glare-free and economical at the same time.”
The PH 3/2 Table Lamp is a member of the PH3 shade product family. The series by Poul Henningsen was devised over several hectic months in winter 1923-26 for an exhibition hall in Copenhagen named “Forum”. The PH 3-shade system was initially a pendant lighting solution but was very soon developed for other types of lighting for tables, floors, walls and a large number of chandeliers. As a result of the different sizes, materials, surfaces and light sources, more than a thousand versions have been developed over the years. Today the series is a Scandinavian world-classic.
So also is the PH 3/2 Table Lamp, which gives a pleasantly soft light. This is reflected by several shades and radiated into the room glare-free. The reflections are led from the shades via a logarithmical spiral in which the focus of the bulb is placed. The shade sizes correspond to the 3:2:1 ratio – every shade reduces the amount of light.
