Pedrera Table Lamp
The Pedrera lamp was created in the middle of the 1950s. Innovative in its expression and choice of materials at the time, it is now considered a classic. The thought-out and sophisticated design hasn’t lost any of its classic charm over the decades.
Pedrera blends in outstandingly in a modern home and gives your furnishing a pleasant and light atmosphere. The small Pedrera PD1 table lamp fits tables, dressers and sideboards. On such items it keeps a low profile and resembles a sculpture with its distinctive expression. When the lamp is turned on, the inner shade emits a soft, pleasant glow and forms a fascinating pattern when seen through the external shade.
The design of the Pedrera lamp was created by the Spanish architect and designer Barba Corsini. In 1953, he was asked by a real estate company that was managing Gaudi’s famous residential building ‘La Pedrera’ to design apartments for the building’s attic.
Barba Corsini subsequently designed 12 individual apartments for the Pedrera building, which were given the numbers 1 to 14 out of superstition. He also designed a lamp and furniture series for these apartments, amongst which the Pedrera lamps.
The inspiration for the lamp series by Barba Corsini came from the slim, cylindrical chimneys in the Pedrera building. The Pedrera table lamp that is today manufactured by the Danish company Gubi owes its name to this creation story.
