Knoll - Bertoia Collection

Bertoia Collection

In the early 1950s, the Italian designer Harry Bertoia designed a whole series of seating furniture, reclining chairs and stools after he had provided a Studio close to East Greenville, Pennsylvania, at the disposal of Hans and Florence Knoll. The Studio gave him room to his artistic concepts without realizing limitations.

Bertoia implemented his ideas himself, created new variations and was never finished or satisfied. He had always thought of groups, which is why today we have so many functional chairs by Bertoia. To eat, to sleep, to sit, for indoors and for outdoors with pad and without, for every room and every situation there is the matching seating from the collection. All members of this "wire frame furniture family” are hand drawn and hand welded in a highly complicated process. Bertoia saw his chairs as "Studies in space, shape and metal".

Today, the Bertoia chairs are represented in many collections of prominent design museums. They have a classic, modern design that extends any environment. The filigree style of the collection recalls a sculpture more than a classic seating, however, the chairs, armchairs and stools are extremely comfortable and meet all practical requirements of a seating.

Knoll offers the products of the Bertoia Collection in different versions: with and without seat cushion, fully upholstered, with black or satin chrome-plated frame, as well as with a frame with Rilsan coating as outdoor model.
