The Butterfly Chair was initially designed and constructed fort he studio rooms of the architecture offices Austral. The design was coined by the three architects Bonet, Kurchan and Ferrari-Hardoy that were employees of the office. Following the designers’ names, the chair became famous in the English room as B.K.F. Chair.
The architect Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy received the Argentina Design Award in 1940 for the exceptional design of the chair. The Butterfly is considered a classic meanwhile and it is in the continuous collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Manufakturplus has further developed the chair and offers it in different variants.
The coating of the Butterfly is also available in smooth leather on demand. The neck leather can also be demanded in a natural or brown colour, the smooth leather in natural, brown and black. The frame is available in white or black, pearl glossy (silver), RAL or stainless steel. Furthermore also the Butterfly Mini and the Butterfly Stool are available.
