Artek re-edited another classic piece made by Alvar Aalto with the Chair 23. The cantilever has the characteristic form of most of the designs by the Finnish.
The Chair 23 by Artek is a design of 1930 which has already been presented in the first collection by the manufacturer. Alvar Aalto designed the early cantilever suiting the side table 606 completely in black, with the Aalto typical renouncement of unnecessary details. The Chair 23 is suitable for the most different surroundings because of the simple form and colour.
The Chair 23 was initially designed to be used in the Aalto designed Paimio, since it is ideally suitable to be used in public buildings because it is stackable. With its seat out of birch veneer, the frame of bent, matt painted steel tube and the simple form, the chair represented modern furnishing styles in the 30s, being as well contemporaneous today.
