Café chair 214 in Two-Tone variant

The 214 bentwood chair by Thonet is one of the most famous chairs in the world and was designed in 1859 by Michael Thonet, at that time still under the name Design No. 14. Even today, the chair convinces with its timeless design and now appears in new colours on the occasion of Thonet's 200th company anniversary. Eva Marguerre and Marcel Besau have taken care of the classic and given it a new coat of paint, while the construction remains unchanged.

The special edition is available in two colour shades, whereby the connecting pieces on the backrest and legs are a few nuances lighter or darker than the frame of the chair. In this way the unique construction of the chair is accentuated and brought into focus. "For us, the central theme of the Thonet brand is the radii and curves of curved wood and tubular steel. We emphasize the shape of the 214, the curve of its backrest with our colour concept - this creates a graphic effect." Studio Besau Marguerre

The two versions Two-Tone-White and Two-Tone-Black are rather simple and perfectly adapt to any ambience, whereas the Two-Tone Samtrot and Two-Tone Sage versions give the room a soft spot of colour and set modern accents.

The 214 bentwood chair from Thonet requires no more than six components, ten screws and two nuts. Disassembled into its individual parts, it can be packed in a space-saving way and has thus become a piece of furniture that has been shipped and sold all over the world.
The 214 is an undisputed icon of furniture design and today is considered one of the most successful industrial products in the world, heralding the advent of modern furniture production.

The chair is made of bentwood from solid beech wood which is bent into the appropriate shape with steam. The seat is covered with the classic wickerwork and is durable and robust thanks to a plastic support fabric.
