Knowledge in the Brain is a book support from Karim Rashid and Menu. Karim Rashid has one of the strongest profiles of his design generation. Menu left the designer’s creativity design freely for this unique object. The result is a bookend that originated from a 3D display of Rashid’s head.
The unusual bookend Knowledge in the Brain consists of two pieces. The head is divided in the middle; the brain was emptied and shaped colourful so that it received an interior life. In usage, books find a place between the two head-halves being kept there. Through a rubber-coating at the bottom, the book support stands safely and firm at any time.
The book support is part of the Designer’s Cut collection from Menu. The collection is a tribute of the free, creative strengths and should break through the dilemma of designers: that creativity is often stopped by financial or practical interests that are opposite to the initial idea. Leaning on the “Director’s Cut” of the film-area, Menu’s Designer’s Cut enables the realization of their ideas, just as they were thought from the beginning.
Karim Rashid was born in Egypt, raised in England, educated in Canada, and worked in Italy for a few years before opening his own studio in New York in 1993. Designer Karim Rashid
