Elíasson pendant luminaire for a good life
The OE Quasi Light LED pendant luminaire by Ólafur Elíasson for Louis Poulsen plays with geometric shapes and the perception of light. Inspired by mathematical figures, OE Quasi shapes light through geometry. Elíasson wants to create alternatives to the dominant orthogonal thinking of modern architecture, art and design. The aim is to find forms that can counteract the stunning of the senses.
Louis Poulsen creates luminaires that blend harmoniously into their surroundings and have a positive effect on the observer. Together with Elíasson, Louis Poulsen has now developed a product that shows how good light creates good life.
Aluminium and polycarbonate in complex geometric shapes
Two contrasting, geometric forms, which are interlaced with each other, form the light. The rigid aluminium frame of the outer layer has the form of an icosahedron (20 surfaces and 12 corner points), while the inner layer, in the form of a dodecahedron (12 surfaces and 20 corner points), seems to float inside and reflect the light in a spherical light distribution. Bright LED luminaires are embedded at the vertices of the aluminium icosahedron to direct the light onto the luminaire core: a white, pentagonal lamina made of polycarbonate. The complex geometric form of the light is perceived differently depending on the viewer's point of view and thus creates countless interpretations and perspectives.
Light directed inwards
"I am very pleased to contribute my many years of interest in geometry and light to this collaboration with Louis Poulsen and the development of the OE Quasi. It differs from other luminaires primarily in the inward direction of its light - it illuminates towards the core from which the light is reflected back into the surroundings. The luminaire combines precision in design with high-quality atmospheric lighting" Ólafur Elíasson.
Sustainable, recycled and recyclable
Sustainability is an elementary component of the OU Quasi. 90 percent of the aluminium used is recycled, while other materials are fully recyclable and reusable. OE Quasi was developed with a view to a long service life. The design allows disassembly to replace and recycle the individual components.
