Gino Colombini

Everyday objects from timeless plastic

The Italian designer Gino Colombini was born in 1915 in Milan and worked from 1943 onwards for the architect and designer Franco Albini, who later was to become Technical Director of the Italian design manufacturer Kartell. From everyday objects, Kartell makes elegant products made of plastic, which are no longer dreary and pale, but colourful and modern.

Gino Colombini designed many household items for Kartell and revolutionized the market for everyday objects made of plastic at the end of the1950s. To his designs belong the carpet beater from 1957, the lemon Squeezer from 1958, wash bowls, salad colanders and lunch boxes, in 1959 a dustpan with a long, erect stick. Particularly known is the round umbrella stand from 1965 made of ABS plastic with ashtray top made of steel.
