Unusual designer duo from Scandinavia
Wang & Söderström is an award-winning, young designer duo based in Copenhagen, Denmark. They describe themselves as a "transdisciplinary duo" - designer Wang and architect Söderström combine elements from art and design to create unique design objects.
Tim Söderström, born in 1988, graduated from the School of Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Anny Wang, born in 1990, studied design at the Academy of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Together they founded their studio Wang & Söderström in Copenhagen. There they devote themselves to merging natural and digital forms. Her works push the boundaries of function and design, of design and art. Natural forms are broken through by technical bodies, artificial forms are complemented by organic designs.
Design through material
The two focus particularly on the materials with which they work. Their goal: to breathe more personality into the forms by constantly testing and questioning the materials and their properties. Her sculptures are always on the fine line between function and art. Many of her sculptures are designed in her studio and first modeled and revised with a 3D printer before they are made from porcelain, earthenware and other materials. State-of-the-art design combines with centuries-old methods and craftsmanship.
The finished sculptures are often abstract, but never completely non-functional, exotic, but never unpleasant.
Top-class customers and collaborations
Wang & Söderström list of customers is long. In addition to design brands such as Hay and ittala, W & S has already worked with the Nobel Prize Organization, the New York Times, Nike and Burberry, among others. Her sculptures are shown in exhibitions around the world, including Stockholm, Vienna, Basel, Paris, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
