How to configure the String shelving system
The String System offers a wide range of configuration options. The system is based on wire side panels, which you can combine as you wish with shelves, cabinet units, storage components, organisers and desks. Use this guide to find the right configuration for your home. View products.

1. Side panels:
Floor panels
String System floor panels made from steel wire form the basis of the system and can be fitted with compatible cabinet and shelving components. You can extend them as needed to suit your space. They are available in heights of 85 cm, 115 cm and 200 cm, with a depth of 30 cm.
Wall panels
Unlike the floor panels, wall panels can be fixed to the wall at the height you choose, giving you more flexibility when designing your shelving system. They are available in heights of 50 cm and 75 cm, and depths of 20 cm and 30 cm.
2. Shelves:
Shelf
Side hooks let you position the shelves between the wire panels. You can easily adjust their height and spacing whenever you like. The shelves are made from MDF with a veneer and are available in different colours. Choose from widths of 58 cm or 78 cm and depths of 20 cm or 30 cm.
Metal shelf with low edge
As well as MDF shelves, String offers metal shelves with a perforated surface. You can add hooks, clothes rails or bottle holders from the + range. The low-edge version is available in widths of 58 cm and 78 cm, and depths of 20 cm and 30 cm.
Metal shelf with high edge
Metal shelves are also available with a higher front edge, which keeps smaller items out of immediate view. This version can also be combined with components from the + range and is available in depths of 20 cm and 30 cm.
3. Cabinet units:
Cabinet unit with sliding doors
The cabinet unit with sliding doors is a practical choice if you need extra storage. It keeps items you do not want on display neatly out of sight. The unit is available in two heights for side panels with a depth of 20 cm or 30 cm.
Cabinet unit with mirrored sliding doors
The cabinet unit with mirrored sliding doors is particularly suitable for the bathroom. It is designed exclusively for side panels with a depth of 20 cm.
Display cabinet with glass sliding doors
The display cabinet with glass sliding doors lets you show off glassware or tableware in your String shelving system while keeping it visible. It is suitable for side panels with a depth of 30 cm.
Cabinet unit with drawers
Alongside cabinet units with sliding doors, String also offers units with two drawers for storing smaller items. These drawer units can be combined with side panels that are 30 cm deep and are available in two widths.
Cabinet unit with adjustable shelves
The cabinet unit with adjustable shelves is useful for storing files, clothes or larger items. It has two doors with handles and two shelves that can be positioned at the height you need. It is designed exclusively for side panels with a depth of 30 cm.
4. Desks:
Desk top
Add a desk top to turn your String shelving system into a flexible workspace in the kitchen or office. It takes just a few simple steps to attach the top to wall or floor panels with a depth of 30 cm, transforming the shelving unit into a desk.
Folding table
String's folding table is a practical option for small homes with limited space and provides room for 2–3 people. When folded away, it still leaves a 30 cm-deep shelf. The top is made from lacquered or veneered MDF, while the legs are made from lacquered steel. The folding table fits between side panels with a depth of 30 cm.
5. Organisers:
Magazine shelf (wood)
Display magazines and books on the angled wooden magazine shelf. It is made from lacquered or veneered MDF and fits side panels with a depth of 30 cm.
Magazine shelf (wire)
The wire magazine shelf adds a light touch to the shelving system and puts books and newspapers on display, just like the wooden magazine shelf. It fits side panels with a depth of 30 cm.
Shoe shelf
The shoe shelf is a practical addition if you are using the String System in the hallway. Made from steel with a perforated surface, it hangs at an angle between side panels with a depth of 30 cm.
6. Storage:
Storage insert
The String System storage insert has three compartments for smaller items and can even be used as a planter. Made from ABS plastic, it can be hung between side panels with a depth of 30 cm in place of a standard shelf.
Felt storage insert
The felt storage insert helps keep things organised with its three compartments and also provides light sound absorption. It is available in three colours and fits side panels with a depth of 30 cm.
7. Outdoor
For String's 70th anniversary, the brand extended its system outdoors with weather-resistant galvanised steel components, making it possible to organise patios and balconies in style. The floor panels are available with a depth of 30 cm, while the wall panels come in depths of 20 cm or 30 cm. The shelves are perforated to let rainwater drain away easily. They are available with a high edge (7 cm) or a low edge (2 cm).
