Jute placemat with floral pattern
This Unikko placemat by Marimekko is woven entirely from natural jute and features the classic poppy flower of the Unikko pattern. Jute is a durable fiber that requires less water, fertilizer and pesticides to grow than cotton - so this round mat not only protects crumbs on the table, but also makes a wonderfully eco-friendly decoration on any dining table.
The famous poppy pattern Unikko was created in 1964 in a time when the collections of the design house Marimekko mainly contained abstract prints. The designer Maija Isola wanted to make something interesting out of this organic theme and designed a whole series of iconic flower prints, which today stand for creativity and inventiveness.
