First introduced in 1964, the Kastehelmi Votive tea light holders from Iittala have become legendary. At that time they were a real revolution in glass production, but now they have matured into a classic.
The Kastehelmi Votive s from Iittala combine two elements: water and fire. The word Kastehelmi means dewdrop in Finnish. The hot flame and cool dewdrops create wonderful reflections emanating from this mood light. So the Kastehelmi Votive lanterns became one of the most successful series of Iittala , until 1988 when the production was stopped.
In the 1960s, Oiva Toikka tried to find a way to hide the seams in pressed glass. He came up with the idea of placing small glass drops on the seams. His experiment developed into a completely new design, which was reissued by Iittala . The Kastehelmi Votive s by Oiva Toikka are available in many atmospheric colours.
