A Piece of Hidden Magic in Everyday Life
Iittala’s Taika crockery series appears magical and awakens memories long forgotten.
The extremely decorative pattern for the table service by Iittala was created by design-newcomer Klaus Haapaniemi. Originally, the pattern was supposed to adorn the Iittala Aika series by Heikki Orvola, but the result was so impressive that the decision was made to create a new tableware series.
The colourful style of the Taika series probably surprises those who consider Iittala to be the embodiment of traditional, Nordic functionality and plain design.
And, in fact, Taika is different: When I was little, I loved to watch the little mole by the Czech illustrator Zdeněk Miler and many other eastern European and Russian animated films. I still like the hand-drawn style of those animations, designer Haapaniemi explains. In the design of the Taika series, this handmade style is evidently noticeable.
Taika offers a whole new facet to the usual Iittala assortment, but still incorporates the well-known mix & match principle that stands for complete combination freedom for all Iittala products.
The Taika dishes are made of high-quality porcelain and are microwave-proof, freezer-proof, oven-safe and dishwasher-safe.
