Egg cup set with seed and flower pattern
This Oiva set from Marimekko brings double the joy. It consists of two egg cups - one in the Alku pattern, the other cup is decorated with the well-known floral Unikko pattern. The stoneware set is dishwasher, oven, microwave and freezer safe.
The bean-like shapes of the Alku pattern represent seeds that grow into beautiful, vibrant blossoms. They symbolize a new beginning, as spring is, hence the name Alku - in Finnish "beginning".
The famous Unikko poppy pattern from Marimekko was created in 1964 at a time when the design house's collections mainly featured abstract prints. Designer Maija Isola wanted to make something interesting out of this organic theme and designed a whole series of floral prints. Today the iconic flower stands for creativity.
In a way, the set represents a development - from the inconspicuous seed grows a magnificent flower.
