The Taika drinking glass by Iittala concentrates on the decorative patterns of the Taika collection and gives some new, softer shapes to them.
The Taika collection is very popular since it was presented in 2007. That’s the reason why Iittala decided to expand the series with some new pieces in 2014, including the Taika glasses. The “magical” pattern (since that’s the meaning of “Taika”) is etched into the glass, which is a traditional technique of glass decoration, according to the designer Klaus Haapaniemi. Taika is a modern glass on a traditional fundament.
And really, Taika is different: When I was a boy, I used to watch the small mole from the Czech drawer Zdeněk Miler and many other east European and Russian animation films. I still like the hand-drawn style of those animations, explained the designer Haapamiemi. That hand-drawn style is obviously in the pattern of the Taika series.
Taika adds completely new facets to the existing Iittala assortment, but still respecting the famous Mix & Match principle of Iittala, which represents the possibility of combining all the Iittala products with each other.
