More than 50 years after the material researcher and construction engineer Herbert Krenchel designed the Krenit bowls, Normann Copenhagen presents the minimalist original design in numerous colours. Krenit is a perfect example of good Danish design and became a real icon along the past years.
With its simple, pure appearance, Krenit is a contemporaneous classic which perfectly embodies the interplay of aesthetic and function. The characteristic sharp edge of the Krenit bowl creates a balance between material and form and offers thereby the modern expression to the bowl. The form was trendsetting at its time for later designed bowls and today still suits as well in a modern home as it did in the 1950es.
Herbert Krenchel explains: ”1953 was the initial idea, shaping a beautiful bowl that would work and be appealing, so that it suited the kitchen as well as the dining table or as decoration in the living room. As material researcher, I really look forward to connect suitable materials that would also look good, be compatible and could be used together.”
The bowl Krenit was introduced in 1953 after a long lasting search for the right manufacturing procedure. It soon became very popular and a clear example for Danish design. In 1954 it won the golden medal at the Triennial in Milan. Since then it was exposed in several museums all over the world and it also found a place in uncountable Danish designer homes.
In the post-war years there was a higher interest for this pretty, high quality design of the white bowl. The manufacture of the classic bowl Krenit although was stopped in 1966. Today Normann Copenhagen manufactures the bowls in different sizes and colours.
