Mother-of-pearl lamp with multifaceted play of light

With the Panton lamp Fun M.O.P. also began the history of the Danish company Verpan . The lamp was the first product of the then young company, which produced the designs of the Danish designer Verner Panton (1926-1998).

Verner Panton always saw the world around him as a source of inspiration for his designs. The 1964 designed Fun Lamp (M.O.P.) is the best example of Panton's great love of detail. Beach, sun, light and sand - these impressions he processed in his Fun Lamp Collection. Naturalness combined with the creativity of the design and the requirements of functionality result in a lamp that not only has an appealing design but also touches the most diverse senses: The lamp inspires both through a multi-faceted play of light and through the slight sound of the numerous mother-of-pearl elements, which provide a sensual calm.

Large lamp with fine mother-of-pearl plates

The nickname Mother of Pearl (M.O.P.) is given to Fun Lamp 11DM mainly due to the mother-of-pearl material used by Panton. Because of its fragile and graceful appearance one could call the Fun But we also call Lamp the "mother of all pearls". The Fun 11DM is composed of semi-transparent, round mother-of-pearl plates, which are flexibly connected to each other by small metal rings. They are attached to five large metal rings. This makes the Fun 11DM with a diameter of 70 cm is one of the bigger ones in the collection.

The actual light source of the Verpan lamp is hidden behind the plates - like the pearl of a shell. The light is thrown against the mother-of-pearl platelets, which reflect the typical mother-of-pearl shine. The cable with black fabric sheathing appears discreet and remains in the background, so that the masterfully composed play of light by Verner Panton remains in the foreground at all times.
