The Eames Plastic Side Chair is the contemporary production of the legendary Fiberglass Chair. It was created in collaboration with Zenith Plastics for the Museum of Modern Art's "Low Cost Furniture Design" competition and was the first industrially produced chair made of plastic.
As such, the Eames chair is more than just a piece of furniture - it's a piece of cultural history. With different seat shells and bases, the multifunctional chair can be used in a variety of ways. A real all-rounder in the living and contract area.
The organically shaped seat shell is connected to the metal base frame via integrated "shock mounts". This ensures relaxed and comfortable sitting even over a long period of time. Whether in private areas, restaurants, waiting areas, offices, conference rooms or in large halls, the Eames Plastic Side Chair DSX (Dining Height Side Chair X-Base) fits into a wide variety of environments.
Classic form - new seat height
With a variety of seat shells, bases, upholstery and colors, the Eames Plastic Sidechair can be put together to suit individual needs. The classic shape of the chairs remains untouched. Since 2015, however, Vitra has been producing the bases of the Eames chairs with a new seat height of 43 cm. This is Vitra 's response to the increase in average body height since the 1950s. With the new base heights, the Eames Plastic Sidechair DSX offers maximum seating comfort.
Due to the small difference in height, however, the chairs in classic height can be combined with the new models without any problems, so that even existing seating groups can be supplemented with new chairs.
