The lovable elephant from the pen of Ray & Charles Eames delights adults and children alike. Made of sturdy plastic or fine wood, the design alternates between animalistic children's toy and sculptural design.
In 1945, Charles and Ray Eames designed the legendary Plywood Elephant. Only two prototypes of this design, which was complex to manufacture, were made. In 2007, Vitra launched a limited edition of the Plywood Elephant to mark Charles Eames' 100th birthday. The response was so great that the design went into series production shortly thereafter.
In 1950, Charles and Ray Eames were the first designers ever to use plastic, a material that was still unknown to the furniture industry at the time, in order to be able to produce the seat shells for their designs inexpensively. Like today's plastic seat shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs, the Eames Elephant is made of robust polypropylene.
Whether used as a toy - also outdoors - or as an object for the children's room, the friendly-looking animal with its striking, oversized ears is sure to make many a child's and parent's heart beat faster.
The Eames Elephant has the usual GS and CE safety certificates for play equipment.
